I provide counselling for individuals, couples and families, both short-term and long-term. I also offer workplace counselling.
My starting point is that we all have the capacity for personal growth and the ability to make positive changes in ourselves and our circumstances, with the right support. This may involve major life changes, or smaller, but no less significant, changes in how we manage difficult circumstances.

Some of the ”technical” terms used to describe my counselling practice include: Humanistic, Person-Centred, Integrative, Creative, TA (Transactional Analysis), Solution-focused and Systemic and of course, play therapy with children. Please ask me, if you want more information about any of these.

Some of the issues I can offer to help you with include:
Relationship issues – at home, at work or socially Abuse – sexual, physical and emotional abuse, whether current or in the past Emotional issues – anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem Workplace issues – work-related stress, redundancy Family and child-related issues; behaviour problems, bullying, parenting conflicts, fostering and adoption. Health-related issues and changes related to life-stages and ageing Unresolved childhood issues.

I offer clinical supervision for those working directly with children and young people, therapists, social workers, teaching and support staff, life story workers, foster parents and residential staff.
I also offer occasional workshops and training sessions for the public, relating to interpersonal skills and relationships, personal growth, as well as commissioned training for professionals working with children and young people. (For more information, please see my website).
I also work with children and families, supporting parents with problems relating to children and young people.

Counselling costs are from £45 – £60 a session

About Angela

I have provided services for children and families throughout my working life, as a therapist, teacher, social worker and youth worker.
Following my qualification as a counsellor, I undertook further training in Child Therapy and Integrative Arts Therapy.
Twenty years ago I founded a therapeutic fostering service that provided specialist family placements for children and young people who had experienced severe trauma and abuse. The service provided stable family care for young people with a history of placement disruptions.
I now provide independent consultancy, training and therapeutic services for adults, children and families in the wider community, including foster and adoptive families. I enjoy working with parents and professionals, assisting them in providing optimum support for each child at difficult times.

I am a parent and step-parent, and have also been a foster parent, providing care for both young children and adolescents. This range of experience, both professional and personal, enables me to support clients with the issues they may bring to our work together.

MBACP, B.A., Diploma in Counselling, Cert.Ed. Redwood Trainers’ Diploma, Cert. Counselling Skills in the Development of Learning, Youth Worker Certificate, Home Inventory Practitioner.

I am a registered member of BACP (the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am bound by their Codes of Ethics and Practice (available on the BACP website).
I am a member of the Therapists’ Network
I have a clear Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) with update – i.e. the criminal record check that enables me to offer services to children and young people.
