Therapy

I offer kind, professional integrative therapy. My practice makes use of the relationship between the client and the therapist as a catalyst for change. Each relationship is unique and meaningful, so both client and therapist learn from the process, yet my sessions are always focused on the client’s needs, hopes and intuitions. I work holistically addressing the reality of the whole person because real change can come through any part of our lives.

People seek psychotherapy for profound reasons and it takes courage to meet the issues that are causing suffering or challenging you to transformation. I aim to offer a warm, confidential and compassionate space so that as far as possible you feel secure and confident to address your challenges.

As an Integrative therapist I use a range of techniques from different theoretical approaches, depending on which technique is most appropriate. I am experienced in offering 1:1 therapy for adults facing a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bereavement, ill health, work stress, relationships problems, chronic illness, chronic pain, attachment issues, sexual identity concerns, self-identity and finding meaning.

Within my practice I’m very interested in techniques from person centred therapy (which places the client as the expert on their own experience), existentialist therapy ( which is focused on helping clients to put aside distractions and find meaning in the daily experience), Jungian narrative therapy ( which considers the experiences a person has and thinks about the various ways they can be understood, what story do you as the client give to your own life?), and also Transactional Analysis ( which can be about the roles we choose to adopt in order to survive and be successful).

I also practice Buddhist psychotherapy and a Contemplative Integrative Therapy specifically designed for those with an Autistic spectrum condition, such as Asperger’s syndrome or high functioning autism.

Cost: £45 per fifty minute session – My sessions are currently Thursdays and Tuesdays

About Paul

Alongside my private practice I work as a therapist for a local not for profit counselling charity.

I have worked in mental health and social care for over twenty years in roles ranging from counselling psychotherapy and working as a specialist autism mentor in higher education to managing an organic gardening project for people with moderate learning disabilities.

In my experience walking alongside others in their personal journeys has reinforced my conviction of the meaning, hope and creativity at the heart of our lives. I’m committed to realistic kindness and compassion, to emotional integrity and openness in my work.

I hold a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative), a BA Hons in Religious Studies and an MA in Mysticism and Religious Experience.

My academic study has always been about understanding human experience, the psychological, spiritual, emotional and cultural. And that has included in depth research into the evolution of consciousness, self awareness, depth psychology, existentialism and phenomenology.
